Only 3 Days Left: Apply for Funding in Epoch Five

A a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the process of applying to epoch 5.

With the Epoch Five submission deadline coming up on 15 August, here's a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the process.

What We Fund

At Octant, we're all about funding projects that can make a real difference in their ecosystems. Here are the main areas we focus on:

  • Enhancing Core Ethereum Technology: Supporting infrastructure and advancements in Ethereum.
  • Advancing Pro-Privacy and Censorship-Resistant Technologies: Promoting technologies that enhance privacy and resist censorship.
  • Developing Web3 Public Goods: Investing in infrastructure and tools that foster innovation in web3.
  • Supporting Golem Network Use Cases: Backing projects that leverage the Golem Network to promote community-driven initiatives.

If your project aligns with these goals, there's a good chance it'll resonate with the Octant community and have a strong shot at getting funded.

Is Your Project Eligible?

To be eligible, your project must be:

  • Open-source
  • Transparent
  • Respect privacy
  • and have the potential to make a big impact.

Projects that are for-profit, financial products, or distributing funding through user voting mechanisms won't qualify. For detailed guidelines, check the Octant Docs.

Steps to Secure Your Funding

Ready to apply? Follow these three main stages to complete your submission:

đź‘ľ Step 1: Join the Octant Discord Server

Click here to join the Octant Discord server.

  • Verify: Complete the captcha verification in the _captcha_verification! channel to access all channels. The purpose of this CAPTCHA is to protect the community from bot attacks.
  • Introduce Yourself: Say hello in the Introductions channel, let us know how you found Octant, and give the community some fun/interesting information about yourself. If you’re unsure what to say, you can follow our template. 🙂
  • Get Involved: Join discussions and share your ideas. This isn't mandatory but can help your project.

In the #general channel you can chat about anything relevant to public goods funding and Octant-related talk. If you have something interesting to share but it’s not very relevant to Octant, there’s the off-topic-lounge, we’re naturally curious creatures so we still want to hear about your interesting thing!

âś… Step 2: Submit Your Project and Check Eligibility

➡️ Complete the Octant Applications form with your project details. This includes:

  • Project Details: Begin by providing the project name and a detailed description of your project, including why it qualifies as a public good. You'll also need to explain why the project is important and share your project's roadmap and milestones achieved.
  • Team Information: Detail your team's background, including their roles and any notable achievements or social credibility. Include links to your team's social accounts and contact details like Discord and Telegram handles.
  • Funding Information: Specify your funding sources, including how much has been raised and from whom. Provide a budget breakdown and funding goal, along with justification. Mention the minimum funding needed for survival and growth.
  • Additional Project Information: Answer whether your project plans to run funding rounds, distribute funding, or launch a token. Share your project's GitHub link, Twitter handle, and other relevant URLs.
  • Eligibility Confirmation: Confirm that your project aligns with Octant’s eligibility criteria (e.g., open-source, transparent, pro-privacy, decentralized, etc.) and does not fall under excluded categories like for-profit ventures or financial products.

➡️ Start the Review: Message the Octant_Submissions account on Discord to begin the review process. If you can’t send a message, check your privacy settings on Discord.

📝 Step 3:  Share Your Proposal on Discuss

Post on our Governance Forum: Make an account on Octant Discuss and post your project proposal using the template provided. This Octant Discuss board is where long-form community discussion takes place. It’s also beneficial for another reason, it’s crawled by search (i.e. DuckDuckGo can find your submission!), in contrast to community channels on Discord.

Getting the community involved is key to getting your project noticed and supported.
