This interview is a part of our on-going series, where we highlight our epoch 2 participants.

What's Funding the Commons?

We are a community of public goods practitioners building new models of sustainable public goods funding and value alignment in open source networks. Our goal with Funding the Commons is to bridge the public goods community across Web2, Web3, research, philanthropy and industry. We do this by convening builders and practitioners, researchers and academics, and funders and philanthropists through conferences, residencies, and hackathons, catalyzing innovation in public goods.

Why should you vote for Funding the Commons in epoch 2?

We are the premier public goods funding conference in web3, and rely on the goodwill of communities like Octant to continue. Continuous support will enable us to continue to grow, nurture, and convene the web3 public goods community, and build bridges to web2 and traditional philanthropy. Funding the Commons will continue to showcase Octant during our conferences & residencies as a leader and innovator in the public goods funding space, and continue to build bridges between Octant and other members of our network.

In 2024, we will launch a prototype for a new type of public goods fund, integrating Hypercerts. We will also work closely with a small number of builders building primitives for the public goods funding space.

Cool Metrics:

  • 150+ speakers, 1000+ attendees cumulative in 2023
  • Hosted 40 public goods builders for a month in Berlin, inspiring many new products and collaborations
  • Growing relationships across the public goods ecosystem, including Protocol Labs, Filecoin Foundation, Drips, Gitcoin, Brave, Celo, UNICEF, NEAR Foundation, and more
